Battlefords Chamber of Commerce

Programs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre

The Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre is located at 10020 - 12th Avenue.  Immigration Programming started in early 2005 at the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce in response to the needs of member employers recruiting employees from other countries.  The organizing committee received provincial funding and established the Centre in 2007.

Employers and Newcomers receive:
  • assistance with provincial and federal immigration programs
  • updated housing and accommodation information
  • a furniture program
  • resources for employment
  • listing of doctors and dentists accepting new patients

The  Centre provides:

  • support and assistance through various programs for adults such as conversational English and a summer recreation program
  • activities such as participation in parades, Canada Day at Battlefords Provincial Park and the "Taste of Culture" (a cultural event featuring ethnic foods and entertainment)
  • a handbook of community information translated into: French, Spanish, German, Serbian, Ruthenian, Korean, Mandarin, Ukrainian and Russian.
  • recruitment of volunteer ESL (English as Second Language) tutors and mentors
  • complimentary computer use for newcomers to access internet and email (computers provided by SaskTel Pioneers, Internet service provided by Access Communications)

The Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre creates awareness about the various cultures represented in the community.  Countries represented in the Battlefords are: China, Columbia, El Salvador, Great Britain, Germany, India, Iraq, Phillipines, Romania, Serbia, South Koea, Ukraine, and more.

The Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre helps create a welcoming environment for all newcomers from other countries.  We welcome people from around the world who now make the Battlefords their new home.

Interested volunteers may contact Marieta Miedema at (306) 446-0622 or email immigration@accesscomm.ca

Please note: The Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre requires all prospective volunteers to complete a volunteer application form as well as provide a criminal record check.
